12 years ago we entered the show ring with the first of the Rowbucks. We showed them and sold them to show homes the first few years, Then, I got greedy. It wasn’t enough just to see them in the show ring. I wanted to see them everyday in my pastures. So for the past 9-10 years we have been saving the best. Now, finally, we feel we have a B broodmare band that is unequaled. Saying this, we acknowledge that they are perhaps not what everyone else likes, but what I enjoy looking at and working with.
For the past few years the search has been on to find a solid, many-generation miniature-pedigreed B stallion to cross with these Rowdy-Buckeroo mares.
I think that we have found him in
Mountain Meadows D's American Express.
Years ago in Columbia, I watched Express show halter and driving and movement to National Grand Championships. I can picture him to this day in my mind.
In 2003 a young stallion in Tulsa stopped me in my tracks. My heart fell into my stomach. After catching my breath, I approached the trainer who was holding him, and asked if there was anyway that he was for sale. He politely told me that there was no amount of money that would buy this horse. I found out later that his name was Mountain Meadows Special Express and that he was a son of Mountain Meadows D's American Express. He went on to win National Grand Champion Stallion.
Then, again in 2006 there he was, Mountain Meadows Special Express (AMHR), aka Prince, winning it all again.
Lowell always said that once was not enough. Buckeroo did it three times. I feel that this son of Mountain Meadow D's American Express could do it again, easily.
Now, Jessica Matheson of Spirit Thunder Miniatures--the sole owner of Old Express for the last 4 years--has given us the opportunity to purchase him. I feel that we have found the stallion that will give the Rowbuck girls a chance to produce up to their potential.
We crossed the line. And this is what we got in 2007. Lucky Harts Great Northern Express aka Lil Ex. On 1/6/08 he measured 30 1/2 inches. We were absolutely thrilled with our one and only Express foal last year. A very big thank you to Mary Ann Bartkewich of Erickson, Manitoba for purchasing Lil Ex. If he is any indication of what is to come this spring, I will be over the top. JEM miniatures is known for driving horses and I hope she is as happy with Lil Ex as she has been with B BobN Baby. It will be so much fun to watch and see if he can live up to his Father and Brother's name. Some pretty big footsteps to try to follow in.
The waiting for spring is going to be tough this year. At least twenty of our top mares are bred to Express, so it will be exciting.
This cross, and these babies are so important to me that I have asked a good friend and respected trainer to give me his opinion on them early in the summer. He will be evaluating them, and giving me his opinion as to whether or not any have show potential. I hope some do.
And so if you are interested in one of these foals, email Josh Tibbs and let him know. Perhaps Express may have sired something that you are looking for.
