About the

Indianhead Miniature Horse Club

The IMHC is a group of miniature enthusiasts, primarily from the Indianhead Region of Northwest Wisconsin. But the club has grown tremendously in the last few years and now can boast membership from all over the state of Wisconsin, as well as quite a few from Minnesota. There are now over 140 members in the club.

Our Mission
The club's mission is to help its members learn more about minis and their care, breeding, and showing. To that end, the club tries to host several training programs each year and has made a number of educational materials available to all members. Seminars in the recent past have included hoof care, feeds and nutrition, communicable diseases, driving, fitting for the showring, showmanship, and conformation.

All People, All Minis Welcome!
The club is best known for its willingness to work with anyone who is interested in Miniature Horses. It doesn't matter if their horses are 'A's or 'B's. It doesn't matter if their horses are registered with the American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR) in Illinois or the American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA) in Texas. It doesn't matter if they don't have any Minis at all.

Some of Our Activities
Some of the members take their minis to nursing homes or schools to visit and the club participates in a number of parades each year. You would be surprised how the crowds, especially the elderly and little kids, are thrilled when we drop out of the parade route so they can pet these attention-loving little horses.

The club sponsors a “fun show” each year, a chance for the “greenhorns” to get out and see what they can do. Besides the usual halter, jumping, trail, and driving classes, we have a lot of fun with some goofy events like the bat race, musical squares, and bribe-a-horse. It is a great opportunity to compete without pressure, to learn, and to have fun with the great friends that have been found through the club.

That is probably the best part about this club. Despite the fact that we compete when out at the AMHR or AMHA shows, we will do whatever is necessary to help each other out. If someone's halter breaks, someone else will lend them one of theirs. If someone has too many horses going out for Grand Champion and too few handlers, other members are more than willing to help out.

It's a Convoy!
Club members often travel together to various shows in a convoy, so if you see a whole string of trailers going down the highway and it looks like they are empty, chances are they are full of little horses. Tune your CB to channel 10 and you will pick up on our chatter. If you like Minis, join in on the conversation. The more the merrier!
