Clinics & Seminars:
It has been my pleasure to conduct seminars on showing at halter, fitting, conditioning, and starting the driving horse.
2009 Clinic/Seminar Schedule:
Jan. 18 – Conformation and Understanding Horse Sense – Discussion only – pot luck – 11 am to 1 pm. Relaxed setting we will cover important information about conformation, how it works and what the judge is looking for when judging halter and performance classes. Learn how to evaluate horses for the area you are interested in pursuing, i.e. halter and/or performance. Time permitting we will begin discussion on fitting and conditioning, what it takes and how to best get it started and accomplished so you’ll be ready for show season. Register by 01/05/09, $25/adult, $10/youth 8-18, Free youth 7 & under.
Feb. 15 – Basic Handling Skills for Showing in Halter and Showmanship, pre-cursor for May 10th. – 1 pm to 4 pm. Spend the afternoon and start working on the basic skills needed for setting a horse up in halter classes and learning how to teach the horse the skills they will need for showing in halter. Understand the components of showing in halter and how to best present the horse. Register by 02/09/09 - $35/ horse/handler, $25 audit.
Mar. 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 – Driving Topics –
March 1 only--starting 1:00 pm;
March 8, 15, 22 & 29-from 9 am – 4 pm
Each session will be all day with an hour break for lunch. Lounging work & fitting to harness, Necessary equipment, Working with lines & ground driving, Hooking to cart & driving. Each session will build on the previous one, but it is not necessary to come to all to gain knowledge about driving. I found that trying to cover all the information in one day was overwhelming and am hoping that by breaking it down we will be able to cover the material in more depth and by the end of the month you will feel confident in working with and starting your horse. Also, by spreading it out over the month you will be able to take home what was learned in the session and apply it and bring back questions to the next session. Register by 02/23/09 - $75/session or $250/all five sessions.
Apr. 11 – Clipping and Grooming – 10 am to 2 pm. For show, for health, for fun. You can never touch on this subject enough. This is a good time to bring the horse out and practice your skills while learning new techniques and getting ready for the up and coming show season. Register by 04/06/09, $50/horse, $25/audit.
May 10 – Beginning Show Clinic and Fun Show – 9 am to 2 pm. Expanding on the basics of handling for halter and how to present the horse to the judge, followed by small FUN show with prizes! Register by 05/04/09, $50/horse/handler, $25/audit or $35/horse/handler, $20 if you attended the Feb 15th clinic.
All clinics may be subject to a late fee of $10/person if registration not received by appropriate date. For your convenience we can take Visa/Master Card/Discover, personal checks and of course cash!
Our goal is to be informative and available. Please call if you have any questions, comments or concerns. Let us know if there is a topic that you are interested in but not seeing listed. We can either try to work it in one of the clinics if appropriate or design a clinic all unto itself if necessary.
